The win did not come easy for Phillips, who started the weekend with a less than desirable finish on day one, coming in fourth overall but the E2 class win kept the Sherco rider’s spirits alive. “It was a pretty good day,” commented PHILLIPS. “I just wasn’t quite fast enough in a few tests to fight for the overall win, but in Enduro 2 things were good. I earned myself some good championship points, which is important. All-in-all it was a pretty decent day.”
His closest competitor, Eero Remes of Finland claimed the day’s victory aboard his TM. Steve Holscombe and Nathan Watson finished 2-3 respectively. “It was a great day for me,” explained REMES. “Winning and moving into the lead of the EnduroGP championship, it’s hard to have a better day. I started well and then pushed hard. Everything went well, I hope day two will be the same.”
Phillips came out charging on day two of the GP of Finland to the claim the overall win, his third outright day win of the championship so far. The Tasmanian finished nine second ahead of day one winner Eero Remes while UK rider Nathan Watson rounded out the top three.
After the weekend’s results, Phillips is tied for the EnduroGP Championship Points lead with Remes, while he comfortably leads the E2 class standings.
The EnduroGP series now heads to Sweden, where round five of the 2016 championship will take place in Enkoping.
