Tomac dominated the series by winning seven out of the 17 races this season. This marks the 11th 450SX championship for Kawasaki in AMA Supercross.
“This is just unbelievable, especially under all of the circumstances. I just look back at my entire lifetime of riding, the wins, the losses, and overcoming it all with the Monster Energy Kawasaki team. There was a point in time we didn’t know if we would be able to get back to racing and here we are finishing business. I am so incredibly happy and proud we finally did it, it’s unbelievable.”
When the gate dropped for the final 450SX Main Event of the series, Husqvarna rider Dean Wilson grabbed the early lead ahead of Honda’s Ken Roczen. Title contenders, Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb found themselves deep in the pack with Tomac in 10th and Webb 14th after the KTM rider fell in the first turn.
Roczen crashed early in the first lap and dropped back to a mid-pack position, still ahead of Tomac and Webb.
As the race progressed Tomac and Webb struggled to make up positions but would eventually make their way up to finish fifth and eighth, respectively. Tomac’s result was more than enough to secure the championship with a comfortable 25-point lead over Webb.
Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne would claim the Main Event win, the first of his 450SX career. Teammate’s Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson finished second and third.
KTM rider Chad Reed finished 10th in what will be his final AMA Supercross race as a full-time competitor.
In the 250SX East/West Showdown, a heavy crash early in the race by Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner forced the red flag. In the restart, Honda’s Jett Lawrence pulled the holeshot and lead the opening three laps before dropping back to fifth.
Honda’s Chase Sexton wrapped up the East 250SX championship while Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis captured the West cost crown.
