Gavin Faith completing the double for Honda in taking the SX2 class for Penrite Honda.
Justin Brayton rode within his limits on a demanding Jimboomba track for his debut in the Australian Supercross Championship.
The Iowa native was satisfied with his opening performance and had the following to say; “I am happy we took the win! The track became super slick which made it technical. I had to use every ounce of my experience and ride smart. If I pushed any harder, I could have ended up on my head”
Honda Genuine Parts and Accessories’ second 450 pilot, Adam Enticknap, finished tenth. A result that frustrated the American import.
“Tenth was acceptable, but the team and I are better than that.” Enticknap said.
Reigning 250cc champion, Jimmy Decotis (also riding for Honda Genuine Parts and Accessories) ended the weekend with a seventh but remained positive for the rest of the series. “I made the most of a frustrating final. I learned a lot from this race and will take the positives from the weekend and get prepared for round two.” Decotis said.
Meanwhile over at Penrite Honda two-time Australian Champion Gavin Faith put in a flawless performance, taking out fastest qualifier, before winning both his heat race and the main event.
Penrite Honda’s second rider Josh Cachia surpassed his own expectations by taking second in his heat race and sixth in the main event. “We had a plan and we exceeded it; I couldn’t be happier. As I get faster, I find things that we can improve on the bike and in me. I am looking forward to getting back to work during the break.” Cachia said.
Honda’s Factory team, Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team’s Jay Wilson made his debut in the SX1 class over the weekend in a packed field.
Wilson raced to an impressive fifth place in heat one. Then, despite being dead last through the first turn of the main event, Wilson clawed his way back to a hard fought ninth position.
“We knew round one was always going to be the most difficult with the tight turnaround from Motocross and if ninth is our worst result for the season then we’re in a good position to go forward in this championship,” Wilson shared.
His debut in the 450 class has given him a solid idea of what to expect moving into the next round of the championship; “I have never raced a 450 in Supercross before, so now I understand the speed of the class, and we know exactly what we need to do before heading to round two at Toowoomba. I know where I should be, and we’ll be doing everything we can to achieve that” he said.
All signs point to Honda making another charge for the podium at round two of the Australian Supercross Championship at Toowoomba on the 14th of October.
