More than 1000 riders took part in this very popular Spanish enduro event, the Bassella Race which consisted of two days of racing, offering an extreme race on Saturday and a cross country race on Sunday.
Under a bright sun,Teodor Kabakchiev put on a show and brilliantly won the Xtreme race on Saturday, Antoine Magain finished 5th.
The cross-country race was on the schedule for the next day. The terrain was more favorable to Antoine Magain who took the lead and ended up climbing onto the 2nd step of the podium. Teodor Kabakchiev finished in 4th place.
Teodor Kabakchiev:
“It was a great race. I’m happy that we managed to get the victory in the Xtreme Race. The Sherco is a winning machine, which makes my job easier. I just have to stay in the lead and not lose focus “.
Antoine Magain:
“After a 5th place on Saturday in the Xtreme race which is also used to determine the starting positions on Sunday. I had a good start and found myself 3rd during the first lap. I was in a good position behind the first two riders, I stayed in contact and managed my race well without taking any risks. At the start of the second lap, after around 15 minutes, I took the lead and widened the gap, but before arriving at the refreshment point, I realized that we made the wrong choice for the foam, I had to slow down my pace in order to finish. I arrived at the fuel station in the lead, the second-place rider arrived, and I fell in behind him, I ended up finishing is second place. I am happy with the result and my riding, without this race incident, the victory would have been ours.”
Portuguese Enduro Championship:
The second event of the Portuguese enduro championship in Góis welcomed a lot of riders including several leaders from the enduro world championship. Faced with this tough competition, Julien Roussaly was able to find the right pace and finished 2nd overall and 2nd in E2, just behind Freeman and ahead of Watson.
Julien Roussaly:
“It was a beautiful, typically Portuguese event in the mountains which offered some nice technical sections along with and three special stages. We had to complete three and a half laps of a loop that was around 50 km. The terrain was quite slippery following the rains of the previous week. I had a lot of fun riding my Sherco and I am very satisfied with my second-place finish in the scratch rankings.”
