GASGAS off-road racer Korey McMahon hung tough to secure a hard-fought runner-up position in the E1 Class at the conclusion of the 2024 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) in Nowra this weekend.
Nowra hosted the final two rounds of AORC with Sprint formats across both days, and with just 13 points separating McMahon and the points lead going in, there was everything to play for.

Equipped with the GASGAS EC 250F, McMahon came out firing on Saturday, quickly establishing himself as the man to beat at the front of the E1 field. Unfortunately, a big crash into a tree late in the day cost him some time, and he finished round 11 in P2.
A similar storyline unfolded for Sunday’s 12th and final round, where McMahon grabbed the upper-hand and set fastest times early in the day, but again crashed on the second-to-last test of the season. He didn’t give up and toughed out the final test of the season to secure second on the day and again finish runner-up in the E1 standings for the third year running.

Korey McMahon: “For the most part I rode really well both days, but with a couple of mistakes it was game over for me – one minute I felt I was riding great and the next you’re wrapped around a tree! Today’s crash was a big one where my bike suddenly kicked sideways into a tree and squashed my leg. I rode out the rest of the test, then for the last test I sat on the seat, left it in third gear and rolled around to get the points. It’s an average way to finish the season, but I feel I’ve improved a lot and we’re in a much better spot compared to last year. We’re battling for the wins and I know the pace is definitely there now. It’ll all come together soon and I’m already looking forward to fighting for the title next year.”
