Lime, not to be confused with the lime found in your Friday arvo Corona, is added to dirt as a drying agent but has the adverse effect of corroding metals and burning skin and eyes after prolonged contact. Track builders add lime to the soil if rain is forecast but it seems they overdid it in San Diego.
Many riders took to social media to vent their frustration. The lime not only caused potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage and injured many riders, it did nothing to improve the condition of the track as rain poured down throughout the entire event.
