After nearly 12 months with the CFMOTO CX-2E, we’ve had plenty of time to put the bike through its paces, and it has been a reliable ride for Jaxon.
From the start, the CFMOTO CX-2E impressed us with its powerful motor and fast top speed. Jax loved going as fast as he could in a straight line one way and turning around and doing it all again back the other way. He mainly stuck it in Map 3, the 36 km/h top speed mode. The three drive modes (16km/h, 26km/h, and 36km/h) have been fantastic for allowing him to gradually build up his skills and confidence. The bike’s torque is incredible, one afternoon at the farm, I used it to tow him back up a hill on his billy cart!
The rear brake pedal, initially a tricky adjustment for Jaxon, became second nature after a few months. His ability to use the foot brake effectively is now a highlight of his riding skills. The brakes themselves have been great, providing reliable stopping power, which is crucial given the bike’s speed and weight.
Speaking of weight, this has been one of the bike’s more challenging aspects. At 49kg, the CFMOTO CX-2E feels top-heavy and is undeniably heavy for four-year-old Jax. This weight makes it tough for him to pick up after a fall and harder to keep balanced, especially during longer rides when fatigue sets in. Additionally, the bike is slightly wide, making it awkward for him to grip with his knees and stand up comfortably. These factors have required a lot of practice and strength on Jaxon’s part, making the bike more suitable for kids over the age of 5 who are strong enough to handle it.
The bike’s suspension has also been a point of contention. While the stiff suspension was great when I rode it, it can make the ride feel harsh, especially on rougher terrain for Jax. The suspension action is too stiff for Jaxon’s weight, making it less forgiving which sometimes unsettled his balance. This has been one of the trade-offs with the bike, as the sturdy build and suspension setup seem more suited to older or heavier riders.
One of the standout features of the CFMOTO CX-2E has been its battery life. It’s been nothing short of epic, consistently outlasting Jaxon’s energy levels on every ride. The bike has never run out of battery before he has, even during extended sessions, which is a massive plus.
However, the throttle action has been a bit of a mixed bag. While the bike’s power is strong and fast, the throttle is a little too jerky. The opening is too quick, and the electric power comes on too abruptly, which can be jerky, especially for younger riders still developing their throttle control. A smoother throttle response would have made the bike easier to handle, particularly in more technical riding terrain.
Despite these challenges, the CFMOTO CX-2E has been a good bike overall. It’s been super reliable, with no significant issues arising over the nearly 12 months we’ve had it. The bike’s power, battery life, and braking performance have been strong points that have made it a pleasure to ride. While the weight, suspension stiffness, and throttle jerkiness present challenges, they are manageable for kids who are strong enough and experienced enough to handle them.
The CFMOTO CX-2E is a great option for young riders over the age of 5 who are ready for a bike that offers both power and stability, provided they can manage the weight and handle the throttle’s quick response. It’s been a fantastic bike for Jaxon, and despite a few rough edges, it’s provided countless hours of fun and skill-building on the trails.
