In just two days’ time the Motul MX Nationals will roll into South Australia, and this year not only will the racing capture the crowd’s attention, but with bikes going retro this weekend, spectators will have even more reason to make sure they’re trackside.
That’s right, round five of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals at Murray Bridge will mark a bright and colorful Retro Round, providing not only athletes and teams with the opportunity to dress up their bikes, but also spectators the chance to witness a throw back to the good old days, and appreciate how far racing has come.
Motul MX Nationals Series Promoter Kevin Williams says that the Retro Round is all about having fun, and that he’s excited to see what competitors come up with for this Sunday.
“Every season we have a themed Retro Round which gives our teams and riders the chance to deck their bikes out in some awesome decals from the past,” Williams explained.
“Throughout every decade of motocross we have seen trends come and go. There have been some great looks and some not so great looks – this weekend it’s all about bringing some of those back and having a bit of fun with it.
“This will be the first time that we have held the Retro Round at Murray Bridge, so I think the South Australians will love the blast from the past at Round 5 on Sunday.
“We’ve already seen a sneak peek of the Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha Racing Team bikes who have turned their machines completely purple for this weekend, and we all can’t wait to see what our other teams and of course our gear designers come up with for this Sunday.”
The Official Retro Round is a tip of the hat to fluro decals, open faced helmets, unstylish and very bad hair, and of course the one thing that will always stand the test of time, epic racing!
