With Peters entering the weekends’ event high on confidence after recording his first ever MX Nationals podium at Echo Valley in 2016, when racing got underway the Factory Suzuki rider was determined to achieve the goals he’d set out for himself once again – and achieve them he did.
Despite qualifying in seventh position, Peters lifted when it mattered in Queensland. In race one, the Suzuki RM-Z450 rider got to an impressive start, and ticked off smooth and consistent laps for 30-minutes to eventually finish the moto in third place.
In race two it was yet another impressive finish for the American import. Peters held third position for the entire second moto, and crossed the finish line for the final time at Toowoomba with his second podium race finish of the day in third.
With 3,3 race results, Peters was awarded third overall for the round at Toowoomba, delivering Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki with their first MX1 podium of the season.
“It’s great to finally get a podium under my belt – it’s been a really long and tough season for myself personally, so to reward everyone who has continued to believe in me with a podium is really special,” Peters shared.
“All of the hard work that myself, my mechanic and the team have put in throughout the season has paid off today.
“Round nine is not exactly the place where you want to just get the ball rolling, but regardless of what round it is, this is what I work so hard for, and I’m just so proud that we could get it done before the season is out.
“For me, we still have one round to go and I’d like to finish the championship off with another result like this, so I’ll be heading to Coolum looking to achieve another podium.”
Peters now sits in 6th overall in the MX1 championship standings on a total of 431 points with a single round remaining.
The 2017 Motul MX Nationals will now continue with the tenth and final round to be contested at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday and Sunday, August 19 & 20.
