The GYTR hydraulic clutch is sold by Yamaha Motor Australia to suit the Yamaha YZF range and replaces the standard clutch system with a hydraulic system. It is a bolt on product that doesn’t require any modifications to fit. There is a recess already in the engine cases for the GYTR slave cylinder to fit perfectly like it was designed to be there from the very start. The hydraulic line is braided and the master cylinder is a quality Brembo product.

WE LIKED

FITMENT – Fitting the GYTR hydraulic system is relatively easy. The slave cylinder bolts into the side of the engine and the hydraulic cable follows the same routing as the original cable.

FEEL – I immediately preferred the feel of the hydraulic clutch over the cable clutch. The Yamaha has a pretty good action with the cable but the hydraulic system I feel felt more comfortable to me and I preferred the action over the original cable.

ADJUSTMENT – I found myself constantly adjusting the free play in the lever with the standard cable clutch system. Every time the clutch would heat up I would have to wind free play out of the cable. The hydraulic system is self-adjusting and you never have to adjust any free play.

WE DIDN’T LIKE

SPARE LEVERS – The only down side to the GYTR hydraulic clutch system is it takes a different clutch lever. It uses the same Brembo style lever as the Euro bikes which means any spare levers you have will no longer fit. You’ll need to update your spare parts kit with a more expensive lever or just don’t crash.

VERDICT

I was a big fan of the GYTR hydraulic clutch right from the word go. You notice the quality as soon as you open the package. Fitting the system was easy and straight forward and the clutch transformed for the better as soon as the hydraulic kit was fitted. The lever became smooth and there was never any need to adjust clutch free play again.

After fitting up the hydraulic system and filling the system with fluid I have never had to touch it again. It has been free from any problems. The only thing I do is give the pivot in the lever a little squirt with silicon spray after washing the bike and that is all.
