Last time we were here testing these chairs it was the start of the camping season nine months ago and since then, these two chairs have done more kilometres than a Bonza air hostess. We take our Oztent King Goanna and the King Kokoda chairs with us everywhere, they’re comfortable, great for relaxing with a beer in hand after a hard day of riding and perfect for getting changed into your riding gear.

Both chairs have been bullet proof but unlike my kids, I do have a favourite.

WE LIKED

Durable Both chairs have not broken or ripped anywhere and the bags are the same with both zippers working. Some of the sliding metal bits became a little stuck but we just sprayed them with all-purpose lubricant.

Comfortable The chairs come with adjustable lumbar support so our backs felt well-supported and they have fully padded back and neck support which was incredibly comfortable.

Strong I can sit in the chair with both my kids on my lap and not break anything. I’m 100kg and my kids would weigh 40kg combined so well under the 150kg the Kokoda can take and 200kg the Goanna can take.

Pockets There are pockets on the side for storing a beverage and other bits which are padded and insulated and in perfect reaching distance and there are pockets in the back of the head and neck to put heat packs in colder months!

WE DIDN’T LIKE

Arms I can’t decide if the metal arms are good or bad. I think the metal arms are better for those who struggle to get up and out of the chair but they’re not as comfortable as the material arms.

Packed away When packed down the chairs are a little bulky because they’re so sturdy. They also take a little compressing to fit in the bag.

VERDICT

Both these chairs are much the same when it comes to quality and specification and they’re both incredibly durable and comfortable. They’re a great size with a seat that’s long enough to reach all the way to the back of my knee (I’m 188cm) and just long enough to support my neck and head without forcing my head forward. As for metal versus material, if you’re old get the metal armed Kokoda, if you’re young and can spring into action under your own leg strength, go the Goanna.
