So, what do you get when you have access to one of the country’s best riding spots and some of the best freestyle motocross riders on hand to throw down the biggest tricks in the game? I present to you  the FMX Secret Sessions 2.0, a concept brought to fruition by a few sharp minds within the Queensland based company MCS (Motorcycle Specialties). They took the opportunity to collaborate with industry players and local companies to make a day of freestyle motocross riding, BMX demo’s and live music. With the format being based on a jam style event where there are no prizes for first place but everyone simply enjoys the camaraderie and can relax with the non-competitive pace.

The freestyle riders kicked off mid-morning and held nothing back with every trick in the book brought to the table. With huge backflip combinations being perfectly executed and some of the most sideways whip variations, the skill of these riders was mind blowing. When they get together like this there’s a certain type of electricity in the air where they all feed off of each other’s energy and create a genuinely exciting atmosphere. This set the tone for what was going to be a great day.

With the spectators and photographers filling up the best vantage points and the riders warmed up, it was time to get some merchandise handed out. Inox and Thrila provided a mixed array of products that were lapped up by everyone and the groms were slapping stickers on anything that stood still long enough. A barbecue was provided by local butcher Murumba Downs Gourmet Meats so lunch was now also on the way and it didn’t take long for the smell of snags cooking to attract the hungry. This also timed well with the first of the live bands to kick off and while the riders took a break from the heat it was a perfect moment to do interviews and grab an insight as to how and what makes these blokes tick.

The day itself was a stinker, with high 30’s temperatures and the humidity was pretty thick too. As mid-afternoon approached it began to show signs of a definite storm headed our way. With not much time to pack up the essentials and hunker down under a Quickshade it absolutely pelted down with some intense rain. What was once a dry paddock now resembled a swamp, the FMX compound was flooded and everyone was soaked.

With the stage and music gear packed up and the inflatable BMX down ramp now unrideable the afternoon took on a different vibe and those who remained turned the muddy surrounds into a new canvas for fun. The slippery conditions made it both challenging and entertaining with pretty well everyone ending up on their backside in the mud. Some of the BMX crew dragged a ramp over to the dam and put on a show with some hefty backflips and front flips into the water.

The evening comprised of a relaxed pool party, with plenty of laughs and banter amongst the remaining crew who were still stoked from the day’s events and happenings. The discussions on how to make the next secret sessions even bigger and better was the topic well into the late hours.

Thank you to all involved with making the event happen and run to plan even though the weather had other ideas. The general consensus was very positive and the feedback will definitely see this event happen again soon as it’s such a solid platform for the companies and the riders to share in together with such a chilled vibe. Thanks to the MCS riders Callum Shaw, Dylan McDonald, Chevy Olexienko, Zac Cuthbert, Jayden South and Travis Gelfius as well as Angela from Inox Paul Everest from Thrila.
