WHAT IS IT? 2010 Yamaha YZ250

WHO? Hudson Lagendyk

WHERE DID YOU BUY IT? I got it off Facebook marketplace.

HOW MUCH? I swapped it for an old Beta 450 RR that was worth $4000.

WHY DID YOU BUY THE 2010 Yamaha YZ250?

I got the 2010 Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke because it’s just the perfect dirt bike. Yamaha’s all about speed and toughness and that’s what got me hooked. Shifting from enduro to motocross, the YZ250 two-stroke is a game-changer. It’s all about that quick, agile feel on motocross tracks which is exactly what I needed.

This bike is an absolute on-off switch and because I geared it down a couple of teeth, it has crazy pull off the bottom. This YZ250 is my absolute dream bike and handles like a 125 with the power of a 300.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IT?

I have completely rebuilt and refurbished the bike with help from my dad (I am 15). The main things I have done are a complete rebuild of the engine, painted everything I couldn’t buy new, rebuilt both brake calipers and new pads, as well as fitted all new plastics and bolts to the bike. Additionally, I rebuilt the forks and shock, replaced all the levers, sprockets, and chain, plus new bars, bar pad and throttle.

Some of the smaller ‘bling’ features on it are an anodised blue oil drain bolt, rim locks, nuts, and valve caps. For protection it’s got a front and back disc guard and a rear calliper guard. I also put on a new seat cover and rescue strap that bolts through the seat onto the subframe and works a treat in a pinch. I also fitted a header and silencer from pro circuit with the silencer being a Pro Circuit R-304.

HOW DOES IT GO?

It absolutely goes, it pulls way more than my old 450 did, and has the bonus of a strong powerband. It is not for the faint of heart. I run Maxxis MX33’s and they are incredibly strong and stand up very well to the toughest of trails and tracks. I would say the YZ250 is Yamaha’s best bike ever and it sounds and runs like a dream.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BUYING ONE?

I would 100 percent recommend buying one of these rocket ships. Although they can fly, the power band doesn’t hit like a 125 making it usable for even a beginner to learn on. The YZ250 has a much nicer power curve with much needed bottom end unlike other two- strokes and a nice strong top end with the revs up too!
