Team green’s Meg Rutledge will make a surprise return to the National Motocross Championship for the final round of the ProMX series in Coolum this weekend.
Meg Rutledge stepped away from national motocross racing in 2019 but continues to ride and coach the next generation of Australian Champions.
The 2018 – 2019 title winner spoke with Kawasaki about her reasoning behind returning for this round.
“I am super excited to be heading to my first nationals in three years. This round will be the first time I have raced at Coolum since I won the Championship there in 2018,” said Rutledge
“I am heading into this round with a different mindset to previous years. It has been only 16 months since becoming a Mum. My life has changed along with my priorities. I think this is for the better. I am heading into this race with excitement but no unrealistic expectation of myself.”
“I have not had the lead-up I would have preferred with daycare germs making my family sick more than once in the last six weeks, but that is all part of being a Mum.”
Meg has already had a podium finish this year at the AORC round 5, her first ever off-road event, and chose the national competition at Coolum to show she is still competition.
“I am excited to line up again at the nationals to show the girls that I coach that riding and racing life does not stop, or even change, once you become a Mum. A new generation of racers are coming through, and I feel that it is the responsibility of previous champions to define the pathway into racing through coaching, mentoring and sometimes…by doing.”
“I am enjoying having no pressure for this event. This weekend of racing will be for the joy of racing and to encourage girls to enter racing. I look forward to getting back behind the gates and doing what I love.”
