The Kowen Forest Ride is back in 2016 and it is all set to be a cracker of an event yet again. It will be the 10th anniversary and the organizers are hopeful that it will be the biggest edition yet.
Held just 15 minutes from the Canberra CBD, the Kowen Forest Ride utilizes a huge amount of fantastic single track which winds through some of the best parts of the Kowen forest.
The Kowen Forest is an active pine plantation and is spread over 4,670 HA. It is a fenced forestry operation and during the course of the event, the gates are locked, meaning no interruptions from workers, 4WD, mountain bikers ect.
The event is run over two days and includes a number of loops which cater for all rider levels. The loops feature technical and challenging sections which can easily be bypassed for less experienced riders.
A large campground is available for riders to crash for the night. The Vietnam Veterans Association provide catering, while a live band usually provides entertainment.
One of the biggest draw cards is the prize pool, which last year was worth over $25,000. The big prize for 2016 will a brand new KTM 350 EXC.
The DSMRA are the event organizers and as well as the event helping to fund their organization so they can support trailriders Australia-wide, the
event also assists the Vietnam Veterans and the Snowy Southcare Helicopters.
Entry includes DSMRA membership, an ADB subscription, a raffle ticket, a t-shirt for the first hundred entrants, and two days of epic riding.
